I checked out Matthew Henry's commentary.
He points out that, here, Jesus makes "a comparison between Jews and Gentiles."
* " a great many of the Gentiles" will "be saved" - "He will come ... with such a company as no man can number (Rev. 7:9) ... They shall come from the east and from the west; places far distant from each other".
* "a great many of the Jews" will "perish" - He points out that the words, "The children of the kingdom shall be cast out" refers to "the Jews that persist in unbelief."
